Also using multi-camera it's much easier and quicker to film a scene because the more cameras you use, the more shots you will get which also means that you have more shots you can take footage from when editing.
Multi-camera is used in different genres; Live sports, Chat shows, Talent shows and even Concerts. All these genres need multi-camera because you don't have time to keep going back and re-filming from different angles.
Live Sports
This clip is a Basket ball game from 1992 starring Michael Jordon.
Aesthetic visual style and mode of address
0:00- 0:06 The first camera is a long shot of the crowd cheering as the basketball game is about to begin, by having this shot it shows the viewers how many people are out there in the audience taking part and it always gives off a cheerful, team support mode of address as you see the crowd cheering and clapping for their teams, I think that using this type of shot to show to the viewers has been used well because you want to see the crowds cheering and the loud, joyful atmosphere.
Aesthetic maintaining viewers interest
At 0:06-0:08 the same camera is then zoomed in on a section of the crowd where we can see the crowd is still cheering and going crazy for the team, showing the viewer team spirit this is also shown by having a variety of camera shots. These shots so far are definitely grabbing the viewers attention and keeping them interested in watching the clip, even though the game hasn't officially begun yet.
Aesthetic communicating meaning to the viewer
1:53-1.55 the camera angle has now changed to a close up of the basket ball players face, showing the viewers his excitement of the game which then makes the viewers excited for the game too and then at 1:54-1:56 the camera angle changes again to the crowd which is a good contrast as you see the player happy for the game and then the next clip is close up of the crowd cheering again.
Another camera angle that was used was 'birds eye view' where a different camera at the top filming below at 3:28-3:30, this gives the viewers a different angle to see the game and with this type of shot you have more view of the game than of the crowd, so that the viewers can now focus on what is important in the game.
Practical reason
In the clip there are at least 4 different cameras used in the gym to get the different shots that they need to show to the viewers.
One of the cameras are at the back of the gym getting the long shots of the crowd, this shows the viewers the atmosphere that the crowd is giving off as the games begins.
The second camera is a close up in front of the basket ball team players, having this type of camera angle and shot shows the viewers the expression on the players face, where its focused and ready for the game which also makes the audience get into that zone.
The third camera is a long shot of the birds eye view of the game, where the viewers can see only the players on the court and blocks out the crowd. Having this type of shot has been used well because it allows the viewers to just focus on what's important.
The fourth camera is a mid shot on the court at the beginning of the game where the team players are walking up to the centre of the court to shake hands with the players, this gives off a vibe of team spirit to the viewers.
With the type of location that they are filming in, using multi-camera is very useful and beneficial because with a live game you want to make sure that you as the camera man get ever shot possible so that you do not miss out anything and also as a viewer you want to see everything that is going on in game, whether its in or outside the arena. But there is always going to be a problem/dilemma with using multi-camera because you will always have that fear of the camera shutting down, breaking and also even though you may have several cameras in different angles, there is always a possibility that you still might not get the shot you was hoping for.

Another disadvantage and difficulty with multi camera is that the cost will increase with every camera that you will need to get to film the shots that you need.
Having the different camera angles for this particular genre, is an advantage of the company doing it like this because it is allowing the viewers/audience to see the game in every angle which makes them feel as if they are actually there and a part of the game like the rest of the audience. It's also an advantage because the audience can see the game in a close up where they can focus on what is vital in the basketball game. (For example at 3.28 when the camera angle is a birds eye view and a close up, its allowing the audience to focus on the person that has the basketball).
The difficulties that I think they may of had is focusing on the player that has the basket ball ready to shoot in the hoop, but then needs to also focus on the crowds reaction because both is vital for a show like this especially when it's all about reactions (body language/facial expressions). There isn't really a way that they can get around this problem which is a shame but what they have to do which they have done is focus on the most important action, which will be the player about the throw the ball in the hoop, this way the viewers watching won't miss the point of the game.

This clip is Trey Songz chapter V concert in London 1/31/13 of his new release of the album
Aesthetic visual style and mode of address
0.00.03-0.01.02 The first camera is a long shot of the crowd, and all you can see if the light from their mobile phones I think using this type of shot especially with the dark lighting creates more of an atmosphere of the concert, and it makes the viewers taken back as they see the amount of people that are there to support their fan.
0.01.49 The shot has now changed to the second camera which is a long shot that is focusing on the stage waiting for the singer to approach. With this shot its also been used well because the viewers see the quick shock of the light on the stage which then goes dark again, allowing the audience to see this gets them in the mood for the concert before it even begins.
0.02.12 The camera angle has changed to the third camera which is a mid shot of the singer 'Trey Songz' rising from the bottom of the stage, then the shot changes again to camera four which is a mid shot of the crowd going wild as they have just seen their fan, again they have used this shot well because its gives the viewers a cheerful, dramatic and crazy mode of address as they see the audience cheering and screaming with joy.
Aesthetic maintaining viewers interest
This clip is definitely maintaining the viewers interest by the change of shots at least every minute or less. 1.14.46 the camera angle is a long side shot of the stage and then changes to a close up to the dancers. Using this technique of changing the shots every few seconds is used mainly to keep the viewers interested in the clip because they aren't just watching one still scene which could get boring and loss the viewers attention which isn't a good thing at all.
0.17.28 The camera angle is now a birds eye view shot, I think using this type of shot grabs the audience attention because its quite an unusual shot that you wouldn't expect. Also this shot keeps the viewers interested because they have a different angle of their fan, where they can see more of him.
Practical reason
In this clip, there are around 5 cameras around the arena that are getting the different shots of the concert. The first camera is the long shot of the crowd in the dark, where you only see the light from their mobile phones. The second camera is the long shot of the stage before and also while Trey Songz was appearing.
The third camera was the mid shot of the front of the audience who was closes to the stage, where you as a viewer can see a closer reaction of the audience. The fourth camera was a mid shot of the singer on stage where we can see his body language as he is performing. The fifth camera was the birds eye view shot where the viewers can see more of the artist. With all these cameras and its different angles, I think that it is all necessary especially in the type of location that it's in which is a concert with a well known music artist which will be huge in numbers and so will need the different shots to produce a professional clip. There is problem with doing multi camera in a concert especially in this condition with the lighting, as you saw at 0.00.00- 00.01.28 the lighting was poor and you could barley see the small lights coming from the mobile phones. Also again with the lighting, it was quite hard to see the dancing on stage because the lights kept going off for the effect which is understandable but as the viewer it would appear inappropriate.
Using the different camera angles is an advantage for the company doing it this way because they want to make sure that they can see their favourite artist at all times, so having the close ups of Trey Songz is an advantage for both the company and viewers as they want to make sure that they get as many shots of the artist as possible. Also having the camera angle facing the crowd is also an advantage for the company because they want to make sure more viewers are coming in and letting the viewers see the audience reaction whenever they see the artist creates a loud, eye grabbing feeling which is what they want.
The main difficulty that I noticed is when the camera is facing the crowd to get their body language and expression throughout the concert, the lighting isn't particularly very good, it's quite dark which is a disadvantage because it's harder to see the crowd which means that it's slightly difficult to capture what it is that they want from the audience.
This clip is the London Olympic Gymnastic 2012
Aesthetic visual style and mode of address
0.00.00- 0.00.28 the camera shot is a high long angle of the audience in the gym, you can see that the seat are packed out which gives off a vibe of support for the contestants which also builds up an atmosphere of team spirit.
0.03.35 The camera shot is of a mid shot of the contestants lined up, ready to begin the competition that they've been waiting for. Seeing this type of shot gets the viewers ready for the game to begin and you can also see the contestants body language of excitement and enthusiasm for what they do.
0.06.20 The camera angle is a long shot of the contestant about to perform her gymnastic piece for the competition, having this shot allows the viewers to fully see what she can do and gradually gets you lifting off your seat because of how intense the shot and angle are positioned for getting that clip.
While the contestant is still performing, the camera changes to a mid shot of the team 0.08.14 where the viewers see the team clapping which sets a mode of encouragement.
0.27.00 The camera is mid shot and is following the contestant as she is performing her gymnastic piece, having this type of shot makes the audience feel involved, like they are doing the piece as well.
Aesthetic maintaining viewers interest
In this clip, it maintains the viewers interest by using the different shots and camera angles around the gym.
0.02.59 the camera is a mid shot of the separate contestant from different countries, then the camera shot changes to a long shot of the audience waving the flags and cheering. Using this shot keeps the audience interested because the shot as changed to something else and they also see the crowd getting into the mood of the game which then gets them ready for the game so again it creates that team spirit atmosphere.
Practical reason
There are around 4 cameras used for this clip to get the different shots that were needed. The first camera was a shot is a high long angle of the audience in the gym, the second camera was a mid shot of the contestants lined up the third camera was a long shot of the contestant about to perform, the fourth camera was the mid shot that was following the contestant as they performed.
Honestly I was actually expecting more cameras to be used for an event like this because it is huge and personally I think they could have used a lot more different shots to captivate the viewers attention, the shots and angles that they used were good but quite basic.
I think they should have used a birds eye view shot of when the contestants were performing on the bars, just so we can see the full flip that they are doing. Another angle that they could have used was a low angle looking up to make the contestant stand out and seem big and superior just before they are about to perform, then that would've giving more of a message out to the viewers to show that they mean business and are ready for any competition.
Having the different camera angles for this clip is an advantage for the company because the Olympics is a massive event that a variety of countries get involved, so the objective is to attract as many viewers as possible so that they can see the events and want to be apart of it, so using the different camera angles definitely will achieve their goal, especially when the camera is facing the crowd in a long and close up of their body language and expressions.
The main difficulty in this clip for the camera angle is when it's trying to capture the contestant in many different angles throughout while their performing their piece. They want to make sure that the viewers can see the performance in a variety of angles (birds eye view, long hot, close up, high angle) and it can be quite difficult to do so because they might not be able to get every angle that they want especially is they want a low angle of the performance.
This clip is a game show called All star Fortunes 27.10.07
Aesthetic visual style and mode of address
(0.13) Its a mid shot of the team cheering and clapping for their team mate, using this type of shot gives off a cheerful and loud vibe which then gets the viewers involved and excited for the show to begin.
(0.24) Is a mid shot of the next contestant on the show, you can see his body language and it gives off a confident vibe but then at (0.25) the shot changes to a close up of one of the other contestants and you can see the fear in his face which then gives off a scared, worried and helpless vibe and emotion.
Communication meaning to the viewer
This clip of the game show shows many different emotions fear, laughter, confidence, in the different shots that are used.
(1.19) In this shot the camera is fully focused on the contestant's body language as he has just answered the incorrect question, and he is embarrassed and ashamed, as a viewer you can see this just by looking at his expression so using this type of shot has worked well as it does communicate meaning to the viewer.
(1.30) The camera shot is of the team players clapping which gives of a vibe of encouragement and support just from their actions which we can see as the viewers. Having these types of shots do work well especially with a type of genre like this one because with a Game show the viewers do want to see team support and team spirit before, during and also after the game because that's what it is all about and also having that in mind it also gets the audience involved more.
I think that maybe they should have had a camera facing the audience so we can also See their reactions throughout the game show. But I think that having the multi-camera in this genre it has worked well.
Having the different camera angles for this particular game show is an advantage for the company because they try add as many close ups of the presenter and guest as much as possible, because you can see their facial expressions of when they either win or lose is the main point of the show and having this does attract more viewers which is a great advantage.
The difficulties that they might have faced with the camera angles is capturing the actual game and the reactions from the contestant at nearly the same time if possible so that it can capture the viewers attention more because they can see or slightly feel how tense the game is.
This clip is the Wendy Williams show starring Toni Braxton
Aesthetic visual style and mode of address
(0.07) This is a mid shot of the guest speaker Toni Braxton entering the stage of the chat show, the camera then quickly changes to the audience reaction as she appears (0.08). Having this type of camera shot sets a bright, cheerful and exciting mode of address.
(0.34) This is quite a good camera shot of a close up of Toni Braxton shoes where the viewers can focus on what they are discussing, having this shot has a understanding mode because your all on the same level as you know what is going on.
(1.02) This is a mid shot of a still image of Toni Braxton family, having this shot I felt gave a personal and close mode of address because you feel more deep into the conversation because certain images are shown.
Aesthetic maintaining viewers interest
In this clip the camera angles keep changing to the guest speaker to the presenter to the audience and I think always having different shots playing does keep the viewers interested because they are able to look at something else instead of a constant still image/clip.
At (0.05) I think has that mid shot of the presenter body language, you can see she was bubbly, fun and excited for the show and I think having that shot would keep the audience interested to watch the clip because of the vibe that you get.
Practical reason
There are 4 cameras used for this chat show, the first camera is the mid shot of Wendy Williams introducing the show. The second camera is the shot of the guest speaker appearing on stage, the third camera is the close up of the guest speaker when she sits down and is talking to the presenter, the fourth camera is on the still image that appears throughout the clip of Toni Braxton's family.
I think the amount of cameras was just right and the angle that it was in I also think that was right because it got all the important and needed shots from the angles that it was in and as the viewer, we was able to see what we needed to.
I think that maybe they should have added more close ups of the presenter so that we can also so her facial expressions while the guest is talking, and I also think that they should have added more shots of the audience, throughout the clip there is only one shot of the audience which is at the beginning (0.03).
The company used quite a lot of close ups for this show which is an advantage especially for this type of genre because as a viewer you want to always see the main object which is the guest on the show, so seeing their reactions to questions and full body language throughout the show does grab more viewers which is an advantage.
The difficulties that the company might have faced with the different camera angles with getting the audience reactions in as well as the guest and presenter, with this type of genre the main object on the show is the guest but the audience is also important as well because you need their body language from a reaction included so that the viewers can see how they react to what the guest may say, but at the same time the viewers want to see the guest expressions as well so I do think that this could have been difficult to do.
This clip is sky news , this is a type of magazine show as they discuss what's new in the news paper which are recent.
Aesthetic visual style and mode of address
Straight way in the clip you have the presenter and the guests sitting around, and as a viewer you get a serious mode of address especially by their body language.
(5.34) The shot is a close up of the heading of the article, having this type of shot makes the words stand out to the viewers especially how its still on the image for a few seconds, having this shot also creates a deep, calm and thinking mode of address mainly because its in a formal location and that's the type of mode that you would expect.
(5.45) This shot is a close up of the guest speaker and this shot comes in straight after the shot of the news paper article disappears, having this shot shows the viewers the guest actions towards the article by seeing the emotions on her face.
Communication meaning to the viewer
Mainly because this clip is a formal genre, you would expect the meaning to be quite deep to the viewers as its a tough topic to discuss and even watch especially if the right shot is taken.
(6.44) In this shot the camera is again a close up of a still image of the article, I think this type of shot is definitely a tough topic and can effect some viewers as it could mean something to them so having this shot is it quite strong but at the same time they have used this shot quite well because it makes the things that need to stand out and grab the viewers attention do so, with the type of shots that they have used.
Practical reason
There are 3 cameras that are being used in this clip, the first camera is a close up of the guest and presenter, the second camera is a mid shot of all the speakers and the third camera is the shots of the still images.
I was expecting maybe a few more cameras to be used especially separate cameras on each of the speakers because that would've been more convenient and helpful for the camera man.
The cameras that have been used I think work well with the location that it is in, because its a small area you wont need as many cameras a you would for a concert or a game show because there isn't many shots or different angles that you need to get from a magazine show, just as long as the viewer can see what is important that is all that matters.
Using these types of camera angles for the news is an advantage for the company, especially when the shot changes to where you see the article so you can follow with what the presenter is saying and using the different angles does bring in more viewers because they aren't just looking at one object.
The difficulties that they may have faced with the cameras angle, is getting separate shots with the individual guest/presenters on the news. Whenever a person speaks you want to make sure that you get a close up so that the viewers can see their facial expressions/body language with the type of news that is being shared (shocking or calm).
This is a clip from Nigerian Idol staring Moses, this is a talent show where contestant come to show their talents that they have and then they get judge on what they perform, some go on to the final and some unfortunately does not make it.
Aesthetic visual style and mode of address
(0.06) In this shot its a long shot of the stage where the contestant is, and is about to perform to the audience and the people that are watching to then vote for him if they like his performance. As the viewer you see the audience and having this type of shot gives off vibe of support as you see the crowd patiently waiting for the performance to begin.
(0.11) In this shot its a close up of the contestant face, you can his facial expression while he is performing, having this shot it set a encouraging and supportive mode of address because you see he is trying his hardest and getting it his all in the song. I think having these types of shots especially close ups are very important especially for genres like these because you as a viewer want to see every expression and emotion possible so you can feel the same emotions that they are expressing.
(1.09) This shot is a close up of the crowd cheering and moving to the beat of the music, I think this is a great shot to have especially to get the feeling of the scene that you see, if you see people enjoying themselves it automatically makes you feel the same.
Aesthetic maintaining viewers interest
(1.10) In this clip its a close up of the crowd dancing, enjoying the music and just letting themselves go with the flow, this shot keeps the viewers interested because they are seeing what other viewers are doing and it makes the feel the same way towards the performer.
Also keeping the viewers interest is the different shots that are used throughout the clip, I think that is vital to do in a talent show because the viewer wants to see everything that is happening especially the expression of the body that are around.
(1.45) In this clip the camera is now a long shot of the front of the audience where the viewer can see there facial expressions and their full body language, again having shots like this helps maintain the viewers interest because they are seeing different angles and shots of the performance.
Practical reason
There are 3 cameras that are being used in this clip, the first camera is the long shot of the audience and the stage, the second camera is the close up of the performer on stage and the third camera is of the audience.
I would expect more cameras to actually be used in this type of genre because there are a lot more shots that could be taken to make the clip more interesting and exciting for the viewers. I would've add a birds eye view shot of the singer so we can see more of him and also so that a different angle has been used, I also would've added a close up of the judges so we can see the reactions to the performance because they are the ones that are quite important in this genre.
But I do think the cameras that have been used, do suite the location that its in because with the amount of the cameras that have been used, they still managed to get different shots which is a good thing so that the viewers can see more of the performance
The camera angles that they used for this genre of show is an advantage for the company as they did use variety of angles to capture the viewers attention which is what you want to do. The close ups that they had of the contestant could be an advantage because your focusing the camera on what's important on the show so its allowing the audience/viewer to also focus on what's important and to see the different angles of the contestant.
Even though getting the different angles of the contestant is an advantage, it must of also been quite difficult for them to do so because they would need a variety of cameras positioned in the different angles to get the shots that they want, to make the show more effective towards the viewers.
Aesthetic visual style and mode of address
(0.13) Its a mid shot of the team cheering and clapping for their team mate, using this type of shot gives off a cheerful and loud vibe which then gets the viewers involved and excited for the show to begin.

Having these types of shots do work well especially with a type of genre like this one because with a Game show the viewers do want to see team support and team spirit before, during and also after the game because that's what it is all about and also having that in mind it also gets the audience involved more.
Practical reason
There are 5 cameras used in this clip to get the different shots that they need.
The first camera is the long high shot of the stage where the presenter and contestants are getting ready for the game show to begin. The second camera is on the presenter while he is talking to the contestant letting him know how the game goes.
The third camera is on the contestant which is mainly just a close up of his facial expressions. The fourth camera is on both the presenter and the contestant having this shot you can see both their body language and the fifth camera is on the team players on the side.
Having these cameras in these different places does suite the type of genre and location because the cameras are in correct positions for the viewers to see everything that is important. There are 5 cameras used in this clip to get the different shots that they need.
The first camera is the long high shot of the stage where the presenter and contestants are getting ready for the game show to begin. The second camera is on the presenter while he is talking to the contestant letting him know how the game goes.
